Rajos è un’opera audiovisiva che raccoglie la luce solare in alcune delle sue diverse forme, sonorizzata dal vivo da un ensemble composto da due strumenti acustici e due elettroacustici.

L’opera esplora processi di trasformazione visiva e sonora attraverso fenomeni percettivi e dispositivi tecnologici. Riprese di fenomeni ottici sono state elaborate attraverso sovrapposizioni digitali e filtrate mediante la trasmissione su uno schermo a tubo catodico, introducendo instabilità, sfarfallii e distorsioni proprie del dispositivo. Ogni membro dell’ensemble è invitato a costruire una breve sequenza sonora personale, che viaggerà nell’opera trasformandosi come la luce attraverso materiali e dispositivi diversi. I musicisti elettroacustici sono inoltre invitati a includere nel proprio setup un dispositivo tecnologico non originariamente concepito come strumento musicale.

Rajos è un sistema aperto: le scelte relative a timbri, tecniche strumentali e materiali musicali sono affidate interamente all’ensemble, che costruirà in tempo reale le relazioni tra suono e immagine attraverso l’ascolto reciproco. Ogni esecuzione produce una forma irripetibile, determinata dall’interazione tra il materiale visivo fissato e la risposta sonora estemporanea.

Rajos is an audiovisual work that gathers sunlight in several of its different forms, live-sonified by an ensemble composed of two acoustic instruments and two electroacoustic instruments.

The piece explores processes of visual and sonic transformation through perceptual phenomena and technological devices. Recordings of optical phenomena are processed through digital layering and then filtered via transmission on a cathode-ray tube screen, introducing the instability, flicker, and distortions inherent to the device. Each member of the ensemble is invited to construct a short personal sonic sequence, which travels through the work, transforming like light through different materials and devices. Electroacoustic performers are also asked to include in their setup a technological device not originally designed as a musical instrument.

Rajos is an open system: decisions regarding timbre, instrumental techniques, and musical materials are entirely entrusted to the ensemble, which constructs in real time the relationships between sound and image through mutual listening. Each performance generates a unique form, determined by the interaction between fixed visual material and spontaneous sonic response.
